Band Grading Policy
Your child’s overall band grade is comprised of four different factors.
Summative
60% Tests
Playing Test(s)
By the end of every quarter your child will take at least one formal playing test. Students are notified as to what will be on the test at least a week in advance so they can prepare for the test.
Written Test
At the end of every quarter your child will take a formal written test. The written test is comprised of the different concepts taught during the quarter. Students will receive a study guide at least one week in advance of the test.
10% Concert Attendance
Students will receive full credit if they are present at the concert. If the student has an excused absence full credit will be deducted until he/she performs a musical activity at the band director’s discretion. If the student has an unexcused absence full credit will be deducted with no makeup accepted.
Formative
25% Attendance
It is important for your child’s band experience that he/she bring their book and instrument to class when required. Every time a student forgets his/her instrument the attendance grade will be dropped 4%. If the book is forgotten the grade will be dropped 2%. If your child is gone from school, it does not count against him/her, but if your child is at school and skips band class, it does. It is important that your child brings his/her book and instrument every day that it is required so he/she can learn what is taught that day. Students receive a calendar for each month to show when to bring their instruments.
5% Homework
There are several worksheets completed each quarter that factor into a small part of each student’s grade.
